Holy crap it's been like two years since I started writing this stuff huh.
No, I'm not dead, even though it appears I am with how much I've written lately. I've just been Reeeeally busy with school. Java is really kicking my ass. Genetics I took thinking it was going to be easy. What a mistake that was. At least my head's kindof up in Trig, if you pay no attention to the last test. If it was out of 60, then I got an A. But it wasn't. Keep laughing, untill you have to remember 30 some identities, regurgitate them, and know exactly which one to use in the given situation. Screw ONE SIGN, or get ONE variable in the wrong place, and you're done.
So friday I went up to Shasta College to speak to Ron Marley's fire class. It was pretty cool, actually. I just gave them the spheil of what I did before, during, and after the accident, and what's going on now. Nobody fell asleep, and they asked some good questions. ("How do you pee" was the first one this year as well...)
Redding IHC sent some folks, as did the jumpers, and there was even a CDF guy.
After, there was a small discussion about a certain post over at Wildland Fire, during which I kept my mouth firmly shut, not having all the information I thought I needed to make a comment.
Then we went to lunch.
Afterwards, Redding gave me a check for $300, to "keep the doors" of this place open. I guess they use it as a training resource. That pretty much suprised the hell out of me, and made a very nice day even better.
It was nice getting out of the usual grind for a day, hanging out with some cool people, hearing some fairly interesting stories, (How does a jumper break both wrists? Go ask 'im.) and just relaxing in general. Then a damn nice suprise at the end.
Thanks, Guys.
So We've moved out of the SnakePit Apartments. The place looked good, when I checked it out that first time at 2pm, when all my drunken crack-head neighbors were all asleep. Living there for 3 months, I found out what the place was really like. I guess the only smart thing I did in the whole situation was to go in with a month to month lease. Otherwise it really would have sucked.
So anyway, I'm in a new house. It's freakin' huge, and very quiet. It better be, since I've doubled my rent to live here. The only problem is the shower- it's a bear to get into and out of. My shower-chair has suction-cups on it's feet, but they don't stick to the tile. So the thing's a bit tippy, and it's rather difficult to get in and out. Plus I can't reachthe shower head to adjust the aim. That will be solved when we put the 'showerhead on a hose' asembely in, which we haven't yet.
Soon I'm going to write up a little "please can we modify this" letter to the rental company, and if not, it's moving time again. So we haven't removed much stuff from boxes, just in case. Plus there's that time factor I mentioned previously.
So after almost a year and a half of waiting, I finally got a check from OWCP. A little small compared to what they owe me, but it's something. Before I had time to cash it, however (my bank's still in Q-town, and is a whole 'nother mess) I recieved a letter. Seems they sent me payment meant for the pharmacy, and now they want it back. So at least they're paying someone.
The whole thing pissed me off (just a little), so I wrote a few letters to a few people and asked them for help. That was a few weeks ago, and so far I haven't heard much.
Hopefully something will happen someday, as I'd sure like to pay off that credit card of mine and put some money back into my investments. All this sort of stuff is subject to the "30 to 90 days" government run-around though, which I find mildly hilarious, since when they overpay or mispay, they want it back Right Now.
So I've got a fireplace. I've been feeling like a dumbass every time I pay 5 bucks for 1 cubic foot of firewood in the store, as if I got that price when I was selling it, I'd be rollin' in dough still. (128 cubic feet / cord. I charged 100$. Store price is 640$) Over thanksgiving though, I'm going to get a u-haul trailer and load up while up at the 'rents eatin' turkey.
Right now I'm having issues getting the damn wood I have to burn.... An ex-hotshot who can't light a fire? What a joke. It's not like I've got a freakin' drip-torch in the garage, but if this keeps up I might need one.
Finally I've got the damn thing going, but I haven't heard the heater fire up in awhile. (yes, I have a fire going, and I'm worried about the heater. Shutup.) I dunno if it's just warm enough in here and I'm feeling cold, or if there's a propane tank outside somewhere, which has become empty. Guess I better go look here soon, before I end up freezing my ass off all day tomorrow. If there is an empty tank it won't matter, I guess, as I'll still be freezing my ass off tomorrow.
Allright, enough writing for now, I've gotta go check a heater and get some schoolwork done.
No, the DSL isn't back yet, so no camera for you. When it is, you'll see.
