Doctors. So... 'Bout 2 months ago, I woke up soaking wet. Apparently I had too much juice or something the night before, and my bladder had become full while I slept, and the pressure overpowered my urethral sphincter, causing the leaking. No worries, it's happened before. I don't like it, but it happens sometimes. So I got up, and tried to cath. Couldn't. Took me about 3 hours to get it done, during which I missed my first 2 classes. Went to my 3rd class, and found I was still leaking. Thankfully I had on dark shorts, and with a backpack on my lap, nobody noticed. So I came home and threw in a foley, and called the my urologist. It was a couple days before I could get in to see him, and during that visit he told me I had a neurogenic bladder as a result of my cord injury. A rather vague diagnosis, as that's like saying "You have a broken back", without mentioning what level or the complications of such. Anyway, he scheduled a "scope" for 31 Oct 03, where he took a look inside there to see what might be wrong. 2 weeks after the first visit, the foley became clogged, so I pulled it, and tried to install another. Couldn't, and I was leakiong once again like a busted fire hose. had to go to the ER to get one put in.. Finally I go in for the scope. During the procedure, I noticed he used no betadine. What did he use? I dunno. I didn't notice tho, and failed to call him on it. He apparently found nothing wrong, and installed a foley afterwards, telling me to pull it in a few days and try cathing again. I waited about a week, and pulled it, as it was beginning to look rather funky and not work well, and cathed. (as the foley had some kind of crap clogging it) I got out about 50cc or so, the urine looked like chinese egg drop soup, and the catheter became clogged. Took it out, washed it, and tried again. 3 times I did that before I was empty. At this point I was fairly sure I had a(nother) UTI, so I wrote a letter and faxed it to my primary care doc in orovill,e asking for a lab visit to get a urine culture, and a referral to another urologist, as I believe A) the one doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, and B) He gave me a UTI during the scope procedure. Said letter got lost (or something) on his desk, and no action has been taken. (yet). So, my symptoms have been getting worse, and last tuesday (18 Nov) I called the current urologist and asked for a UTI check. Went to the lab that day and gave a donation. They said it would be cultured in 24 hours. I called the urologist for the results on thursday, (the 20th) and the receptionst, after some searching, said she had found them in the fax machine. Apparently they were faxed wednesday (the 19th) and nobody in the office noticed. "The Doc is in with someone right now" she says, "but I'll give these to the nurse and we'll formulate a plan. " "So there needs to be a plan?" I asked, because often they will not give results over the phone... "I dunno, she says, as I don't know how to read one of these reports." So I expected a call later that day, or friday. Friday (the 21st) at about noon I called them, having not heard anything. I got the answering service, who told me they had left for the day. Later that day I was taking a nap, and the phone rang. It was the urologist's office, telling me I would have to talk to them monday (tomorrow) about the results.
Flash to the drama with the general care doc.
So, Monday (tomorrow) I have some calls to make. One to my former primary care guy in quincy, asking him to get my records together and send them to oroville doc (trying not to use names here) and also give oroville guy a call and ask why he has taken me off the percocet.
On with the urology mess.
So. I have some questions for the urologist tomorrow. A) Did the test on tuesday come back hot? B) If so, why was I not told? C) If not, why was I not told? Basicly, what the hell took so long?
So tomorrow we'll see if I have any docs here in Chico, or if I must travel an hour and a half (one way) to see my general guy, and 3.5 (one way) to see a competant urologist. |
