So I've met a girl. Her name's Nancy Damico, and She's from Ashland, Ky. How did that happen? Well, Andy Mead has written a few stories about me in the Lexington Herald-Leader. Nancy read one of them back in November, came here, filled out the application, and we've been talking ever since. She watches me get up every morning, and we talk as I have my coffee. Then I go off to school, come home, do my homework, and we talk some more before she goes home. Sometimes on the weekends we call each other. My friends watch and they know. One sent me some mail: "Hello. You were talking to the girl tonight at around 6:15 hunh? I could tell...only a girl you like alot could make you smile like that. Just thought you'd think it was funny. Bye! - R"
So we have finally planned to meet (no, we
haven't actually touched yet) over spring break. The plan is as follows:
Well, that was the plan, anyway.
You see a month ago she decided to sell a
car- I dunno what kind it was, and it doesn't matter. A young kid from
down the street decided he wanted to take a look at it, and took it on a
test drive. A little ways down the road, He drove it right into a
telephone pole. Nancy wasn't hurt, but the car isn't worth a whole lot
now. Apparently he jumped out, ran home, and denies being in the car at
all. Apparently He is also underage, so shopuldn't have been driving a
car in the first place. Who is going to check an ID for a test drive
though, especially when someone looks older than they are?
Now, Nancy doesn't have tickets yet, first because she wanted to be sure she had the time off, and once that was given, the court wouldn't nail down a date, but they *thought* it might be the week of the 31st. Well, today, they decided court would be ON the 31st. Sigh. Pretty much screws up the whole trip. So, now one of 3 things will happen. 1) I fly to Kentucky. Frankly, I am kind of Not Very Excited about this prospect. Even though there's lots of cool people there, traveling as a gimp has a bit to be desired. Flying in a wheelchair isn't all that fun, but I'll do it. I'd drive, but 2376 miles at 11 mpg = 216 gallons at 2$/gallon = $432, and that's one way. Plus the 39 hours it would take to get there. So I fly. That means I have no transportation when I get there, so Nancy's cartin' me all over, wrestlin' the chair..... her house isn't all that 'accessible' either, I think there's 15 or so steps to get in the front door. Imagine a little 125 pound thing trying to haul me up those stairs by herself? Sigh. Not to mention that ONCE AGAIN my life has been negatively effected by some young weaseldick from Eastern Kentucky. This time, I wasn't even there. It would prolly be a bad idea for me to go to court with her on that Monday. I'd open my mouth, and all kinds of bad things can fall out when I'm mad. So, that's number one. I'm not going to be happy about it, but I'll go. I haven't ran that one past Nancy yet tho, so don't tell her untill I do OK? 2) Somehow the Judge in Catlettsburg KY (That's Boyd County, if it matters) decides NOT to have this case on the 31st. How? I don't know. Maybe lightening wrecks the courthouse, Maybe tomorro Nancy's able to convince the Judge, maybe ... Um, no, a call from "some Admiral Guy" in California isn't going to do anything.... I guess I'm just going to have to Hope. I'd really like to get that date changed so Nancy can come out and see some of the west. (yes, and Me, as well) I'm not asking for a miracle here, just a change of a court date, but I've found though in my new life, I don't always get what I want. So, there's Option 3. And that is that Neither of us goes anywhere for Spring Break. Yup, I have off school, She has off work, but did I mention That Young Jackass? Yeah, because of That Guy (and his parents not taking responsibility for his actions), the third option is Nancy and I don't meet untill the end of May when we finally get to in Englewood, Colorado for one week of check-ups at Craig. Hopefully it won't take that long, but I've learned to expect the worst, then I'm happy when something better happens. So, right now, I'm afraid our meeting will take 2 months to happen, instead of 11 days, and at this point, I'm going to call Wednesday or Thursday the cut-off, as every day we wait ticket prices go up, and neither of us has much money.
In other news, I'm becoming more and more
sure my UTI isn't dying, as I still have a little discharge, and the
spasms are getting worse again, even though I'm on Cipro and Amoxacillin
at the same time. I've found a crack in the case of this laptop as
well, just to the right of the mousebutton, above the superdrive bay.
I'll prolly have to send it in (good thing I've got Applecare?) and do
without while tech-support takes e t e r n i t y to trade out the case,
prolly formatting my drive as they go. Guess I better burn everything
onto a dvd before I give it to them. 'Cource none of my other machines
can read dvd's. So I'll have to store everything some other way. I'll
figure it out, just wish I didn't have to.
So, as you watch me
and I'm smiling alot and drinking coffee, it's because I'm talking to
Nancy. If I'm NOT smiling a whole lot (if at all) it's becasue we haven't
beeen able to fix that court date and we have to wait.
So, between the maybe-not trip, the UTI, and
the cracked 'tibook, as you can guess, I'm kinda bummed. I'll get over
it, but along the way, I can't help but wonder what other sticks in the
spokes I'm going to have to just sit and take.
